A new collection of animated beer cans defies belief.

Soon, you won’t have to go out to the bar, or even leave your house. All you need is a flat screen TV and some Animated Beer Cans!

Tell your friends about this amazing new beer, or just await a few days, they’ll soon know – the video is highly share-worthy, by all standards and in all social channels

Breweries are coming up with new and innovative ways to keep their customers entertained. But whoever came up with the idea of animated beer cans is either a genius, or a laughingstock at work.

More likely a genius, because the clever augmented reality concepts is spreading round the internet like tornado.uses augmented reality, an impressive technology that is quickly hitting the mainstream

Level Up

The animated label is from a brand called Level Up, a beer produced by Philadelphia institute, Yards brewing.

It’s part of an initiative by the brand to connect with the generation Z and Y,  tying in with the  brands theme of retro 80’s video games, where bright colours, and blocky graphics are the norm.

The can design captures the essence of the genre perfectly – on point for engaging the new generation.  Even drawing in generation Xers, like me, who grew up immersed in these video games

Branding excellence. Job done. Perfect.

Perfect, that is, until the team at Yards Brewing launched the stunning augmented reality feature, which simply defies the senses.

A video game hero. Scaling girders and dodging flaming barrels. On the beer you’re holding in your hand.

Perfect-er.

How Does It Work?

The concept uses augmented reality.

Consumers scan the product with their phone, which places 3-D content over the can, virtually, giving the the seamless appearance of an animated can.

The content isn’t really there, its virtual, which means its only seen when viewed through the phone.

Other Features Drive Industry Interest

Augmented reality can do a lot more than showing animated scenes, including providing interactive content, and creating an immersive social experience.

Which is why, over the past twelve months, Industry uptake has been substantial

Allowing customers to see how their products are made

  • Creating unique experiences that no one else can offer
  • Helping customers connect with the product in a new and meaningful way
  • Offering something interesting and interactive for customers to do while they drink
  • Increasing their likelihood to stay longer and spend more money
  • Giving breweries a huge advantage over their competitors by giving them the ability to offer something unique.

Industry adoption is surging

For a new technology, the industry response has been rapid and substantial. Partly, this is partly due to lower barriers to entry, but mostly due to the availability of a scaled solution.

In November 2021, Yards was one of fifty breweries from around the globe who added augmented reality to their labels, through the Swigr network, the first en masse push into AR the industry has seen

Other notables include Abita, Maui Brewing, Paulaner

And since, beer giant, Budweiser has entered the AR field.

Brands are excited

There are lots of reasons why brands are excited by this technology – offering unique and interesting experiences, building deeper connections in a new and meaningful way, and the increased sales and a longer relationship with the customer.

Finally, it’s just fun! Who doesn’t love a beer with flaming barrels.

everyday, there are more new brands winning new customers from the label, with Swigr
